The brickworks was originally established in Bundaberg in 1955 to meet the needs of the Wide Bay region in Queensland. In the new millennium its business has expanded into the global economy but it is still a major manufacturer of quality clay products for its local market in Queensland and elsewhere in Australia.
Brick manufacturing was one of Australia's first industries. Its history can be traced back to the arrival of the First Fleet at Sydney Cove in 1788 when its cargo included brick moulds and five thousand bricks. Five thousand bricks are about the same number of bricks used today to build an average sized Australian home. We make about one hundred times that number every week at our brickworks.
The business has grown from a small country brickworks to an international business manufacturing and supplying a wide range of clay bricks, blocks and pavers for local and overseas customers.
QC Bricks Pty Ltd took over operation of the brickworks in March 2000. Its directors Ivan & Val Parker and Peter & Narelle Tobin devote the whole of their time to running the brickworks. The new owners have improved and expanded the operations of the brickworks. It is now one of the most technologically advanced brickworks in Australia as well as being one of the largest privately owned brickworks in the nation.
In running the business the owners are focused on ensuring quality and consistency of products. The brickworks has its own laboratory where each day tests are made of every run of product to ensure QC Bricks' high standards are met.
All products manufactured by QC Bricks are hand sorted. We don't trust machines to sort colours and consistency of our products as we believe this job can only be done by experienced hand sorters. The products are then inspected by our supervisors before being despatched to our local and overseas customers.
We have significant clay reserves in close proximity to the brickworks. Our reserves provide the natural resources to offer a wide and interesting colour range of products.
Our high quality products are used with confidence in extremes of cold and hot weather in various parts of the world. We are not happy with just meeting Australian standards of manufacture. We aim to exceed Australian standards and make our products world class.
